Special Screening of Bolinao 52 at Chapman University School of Law

Chapman University School of Law's Orange County premiere of Bolinao
52, a documentary of Vietnamese Boat People, will take place on
Friday, April 4, at 5:30 p.m. in the Folino Theater at the Film
School. The free event, coordinated by the Vietnamese American Law
Student Association (VALSA), is open to the public and also features a
reception with the director.

Distinguished guest speakers include The Honorable Nho Trong Nguyen,
Orange County Superior Court Judge; Mr. Duc Nguyen, director; Dean
Timothy Canova, Chapman's Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and
Betty Hutton Williams Professor of International Economic Law; and
Professor Marisa Cianciarulo, Director of Chapman's Family Violence
Clinic.

The Bolinao 52 documentary is the story of a Vietnamese refugee's
quest for a closure to a haunting past when she escaped Vietnam in
1988. It is a voice that speaks to the world about the saga of the
Vietnamese Boat People's exodus out of Vietnam after the American
withdrawal in 1975. The documentary reconstructs a horrifying event
using eyewitness accounts of a Bolinao 52 survivor and a crewmember on
the USS Dubuque - one which made international headlines in 1988 when
the survivors had to resort to cannibalism to survive, after a U.S.
Navy ship refused to rescue.

Bolinao 52 is one boat person's attempt to speak out about an
unmentioned chapter in history. Her voice represents millions of
silent ones.

Bolinao 52 has received accolades at numerous film festivals, and will
debut on public television stations in San Jose on April 30 and San
Francisco on May 4.
