  December, 2008 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: YSA LE, Executive Director VAALA ORGANIZES A FUNDRAISER & MIXER TO CELEBRATE THE GRAND OPENING OF VAALA CENTER SANTA ANA, CA – The Vietnamese American Arts & Letters Association (VAALA) will open its new Center with a Fundraiser & Mixer on Sunday, December 14, 2008 from 5:00 – 10:00 pm. The new VAALA Center is located at 1600 N. Broadway, Santa Ana. The enchanting evening will be filled with live musical performances by winners of SBTN’s Tài Việt Ta Talent Competition, Thomas’ Apartment, and the dynamic VGT Jazz Trio. All guests will be invited to participate in the Circle Painting project with prominent artist Hiep Nguyen. The event will offer a silent auction where guests have the opportunity to help fund VAALA’s innovative and life-changing projects and bid for a beautiful objet d’art, a mysterious gift basket or any other exciting items they could find. World- renowned and award-winning artists who have generously donated their artworks for the silent auction include: Ann Phong, Binh Danh, Brian Doan, Charlie Nguyen, Christine Nguyen, Dinh Q. Le, Ham Tran, Julie Thi Underhill, Mong-Lan, Nguyen Khai, Stephane Gauger, Tam Van Tran, Thomas’ Apartment, Tiffany Chung, Tuan Kien Nguyen, UuDam Nguyen, Viet Le, and more to come. Gourmet hors d’oeuvres will be catered from the famous Brodard Chateau, and complimentary wine will be served. Ticket price: $20 per person. With this new growth, we need support from the community to make the space equipped to honor the great works that pass by here, such as installing proper lighting tracks, dry walls for hanging artworks, equipment for rehearsals, etc.” The multi-use space will provide centralized work stations to organize events and meet; galleries for regular art exhibitions; screening rooms for film events; rehearsal space for live performances, classrooms for art and music lessons; and rooms for archiving literature, films, and documents. In fact, VAALA’s largest ever multi-art exhibition F.O.B. II: Art Speaks will be held at VAALA Center from January 9 – 18, 2009 as well as the year-round smART workshops provided free to non-profit youth organizations. Viet Le, celebrated artist, curator, and scholar, states, “VAALA is vital for its broad range of community-focused programming.
