VAALA's 8th Annual Moon Festival (Tết Trung Thu) Children's Art Contest is just around the corner – on Saturday, Sept. 18th and Sunday, Sept. 19th.  In order for this mega-community event to be possible, there are two very important groups of people which the event is built upon: 

1) The 300+ creative children (and parents) with pencils/paintbrushes in hand

2) Wonderful group of dedicated community VOLUNTEERS who make it all happen!

If you love art, creativity, and children and don't mind a bit of crowd control and FUN, we would like to request your presence as a VOLUNTEER for this year’s Children's Art Contest.  It's an incredibly rewarding experience and captures the essence of bringing our community and youth together in the name of imagination, art and celebrating our cultural traditions. A number of volunteers are needed for set-up and preparation prior to the event and of course, an army of volunteers are needed on the consecutive days of the contest to fill multiple shifts.  Please see below for all volunteer needs!

Thursday, Sept 16th, 5pm-8pm : Pre-Contest Preparations (Registration & Participant Gift Bags Prep) *Dinner Provided* ( 10-15 volunteers)

Saturday, Sept 18th THE BIG DAY!  Art Contest at Nguoi Viet Daily News. 

We need a total of 45-55 volunteers for this day (volunteers who are able to stay for multiple shifts are fabulous!)

Shift 1: 8am – 11 am - Volunteers will help set-up and will be assigned to one of the following: Registration, Art Supervision, Runners, Ushers, or Child Check-Out. 

Shift 2: 10am – 1pm – Volunteers will be assigned to one of the following: Art Supervision, Runners, Ushers, Child Check-Out.

Shift 3: 12pm – 3pm – Clean-up Crew

Sunday, Sept 19th: Awards Ceremony & Children’s Performances at Westminster Mall

We need a total of 30 volunteers for this day (volunteers who are able to stay for both shifts are fabulous!)

Shift 1: 10am – 2pm – Volunteers will help mount art on exhibition boards at Westminster Mall (need approximately 10-15 for this shift)

Shift 2: 1pm – 5pm – Event will begin at 3pm but parents will arrive by 1pm.  Volunteers will help hand out balloons and gift bags during event. (15 vols)

*Food and refreshments and a FREE contest t-shirt will be provided for all volunteers*
