Puppetry Class Taught By Artist Trần Tường Nguyên Performs For The First Time

Santa Ana – A monkey gets his hand stuck while trying to get sweet rice. At the dawn of mankind, the snake is actually a good friend of humans. Two women (one a female parakeet) gossip about men. These are just three of the eight stories to be told at the first performance of a Vietnamese Puppetry Class.

The Puppetry Class conducted by artist Trần Tường Nguyên at VAALA Center will hold its debut performance “My Favorite Pet” on Sunday, May 15th from 6:00pm-7:00pm at VAALA Center, which is located at 1600 North Broadway (corner of Seventeenth Street), Santa Ana. The reception begins at 5:00 pm and admission is free.

All of the original stories were created and will be performed by the students of the Puppetry Class. The students include Catherine Phạm, Catherine Thúy Ái, David Phạm, Diane Phạm, Dr. Yêu, Etcetera Nguyễn, Vincent Vũ, and Vivian Vũ. The talented puppeteers will use different techniques (such as hand puppetry, string puppetry, ventriloquism, etc.) learned in the class for their numbers. The puppet “pets” used in the show are also original student creations.

After the show, Trần Tường Nguyên and all of the students will share their puppetry experiences with the audience members. VAALA is still recruiting more students for the class. Sponsored by the Kenneth Pierne Foundation and VAALA, the Puppetry Class is free and opened to everyone in the community. Lớp Múa Rối Do Nghệ Sĩ Trần Tường Nguyên Hướng Dẫn Sẽ Trình Diễn Lần Đầu Tiên

SANTA ANA – Câu chuyện con khỉ bị kẹt tay khi cố lấy miếng xôi; con rắn thời hồng hoang thật ra là bạn của người; con két (mái) và người phụ nữ tâm sự gì với nhau về… đàn ông… Đây là ba trong số tám mẩu chuyện của lớp múa rối do nghệ sĩ Trần Tường Nguyễn hướng dẫn.

Lớp Múa Rối do nghệ sĩ Trần Tường Nguyên hướng dẫn tại Trung tâm văn hóa VAALA sẽ tổ chức một buổi trình diễn đầu tiên mang tựa đề “My Favorite Pet” (“Con Thú Yêu Mến Của Tôi”). Buổi trình diễn sẽ được diễn ra từ 6:00pm-7:00pm Chủ Nhật, ngày 15 tháng 5, tại Trung tâm văn hóa VAALA, số 1600 N. Broadway (góc đường Seventeenth), Santa Ana, CA 92706. Tiệc trà sẽ bắt đầu từ 5:00pm. Vào cửa hoàn toàn miễn phí.

Chương trình do các học viên của lớp tự dàn dựng và trình diễn. Lớp bao gồm cả học viên thiếu nhi lẫn người lớn. Các học viên gồm có Catherine Phạm, Catherine Thúy Ái, David Phạm, Diane Phạm, Dr. Yêu, Etcetera Nguyễn, Vincent Vũ, và Vivian Vũ. Các tiết mục từ 5 đến 10 phút do chính các học viên sáng tác, kết hợp với những kỹ thuật múa rối của lớp. Học viên tự sáng chế và giúp nhau hoàn thành các con thú cho mỗi tiết mục. Khán giả sẽ được thưởng thức nhiều loại múa rối khác nhau như múa rối tay, múa rối giây, ventriloquism (nói tiếng bụng), v.v.

Sau phần trình diễn, nghệ sĩ Trần Tường Nguyên cùng tất cả học viên sẽ chia sẻ với khán giả kinh nghiệm học hỏi nghệ thuật múa rối trong thời gian qua. Lớp múa rối hiện vẫn tiếp tục nhận thêm học viên. Với sự bảo trợ của Kenneth Picerne Foundation và Hội Văn Học Nghệ Thuật Việt Mỹ (VAALA), lớp múa rối hoàn toàn miễn phí. Lớp hiện diễn ra vào hai buổi, thứ Sáu, từ 6:00pm-9:00pm, và Chủ Nhật, từ 3:00pm-6:00pm tại Trung tâm văn hóa VAALA. Tuần báo Việt Weekly đăng tin và hình ảnh sinh hoạt của lớp đều đặn mỗi tuần.
