  Westminster Mall to Exhibit Winning Artwork from the Moon Festival Children’s Art ContestWESTMINSTER – Vietnamese American Arts & Letters Association (VAALA) will host an exhibition showcasing over 20 paintings from the Moon Festival Children’s Art Contest at the newly built Rejuvenation Station in Westminster Mall. A reception honoring the Moon Festival winners and their work will take place at Rejuvenation Station on Saturday, December 19, 2009, from 10:00 am-12:00 pm. The Westminster Mall is located off the 405 Freeway's Goldenwest Exit, on the corner of Goldenwest Street and Bolsa Avenue in Westminster. Rejuvenation Station is easily located; if you come from Macys into the Mall, it is to the left and between Fast Fix and Express. The exhibition will continue through January 31, 2010. The works on display are of the winners from this year’s contest, which took place in October 2009 at the Nguoi Viet Community Room in Westminster. The contest drew over 300 contestants, from the ages of 5 to 15, all of whom are placed in different categories according to their age. Each category includes first, second, and third place awards, as well as three honorable mentions. According to Vietnamese tradition, the Mid-Autumn Moon Festival (Tết Trung Thu) is an important festival for children to celebrate with families and friends the arrival of a new season. It is here that children march along with their colorful star-shaped or animal-shaped lanterns, eat moon cake, and watch a lion dance. Established in 2003 by VAALA, Nguoi Viet Daily News, Vietnam California Radio (VNCR), and The Ky 21 Magazine, the Moon Festival Children’s Art Contest continues the festive tradition by putting together an artistic event that encourages children to create art while celebrating the holiday. As part of the event, the contest’s Awards Night also features live music and other dance performances performed by the children. Founded in 1991 by a group of Vietnamese American journalists, artists, and friends, Vietnamese American Arts & Letters Association (VAALA) is a community-based, 501(c) (3) non-profit organization. VAALA has organized numerous cultural events, such as art exhibitions, book fairs, book signings, recitals, plays, lectures, the biennial Vietnamese International Film Festival (ViFF), the biennial Cinema Symposium, the annual Children's Moon Festival Art Contest, and year-long art and music classes. VAALA has recently developed its smART Program, which offers free art workshops for non-profit youth organizations in the Orange County and Los Angeles areas.
Westminster Mall Triển Lãm Tranh Được Giải Thưởng Từ Cuộc Thi Vẽ Thiếu Nhi Trung Thu
WESTMINSTER – Hội Văn Học Nghệ Thuật Việt Mỹ (VAALA) sẽ tổ chức một cuộc triển lãm gồm hơn 20 tranh vẽ từ Cuộc Thi Vẽ Thiếu Nhi Trung Thu tại căn phòng mới hoàn thành mang tên Rejuvenation Station ở Westminster Mall. Một buổi tiệc trà tiếp tân khai mạc sẽ được thực hiện cho các “họa sĩ” tí hon và khách thưởng ngoạn vào thứ Bảy, ngày 19 tháng 12, 2009, từ 10 giờ sáng đến 12 giờ trưa. Westminster Mall nằm ở góc đường Goldenwest và Bolsa. Nếu đi từ cửa tiệm Macys vào trong Mall, Rejuvenation Station nằm bên tay trái, giữa Fast Fix và Express.
