This year, VAALA and Nguoi Viet Daily News will host the 10th Anniversary Moon Festival Children’s Art Contest. For the first time, we are partnering with Festival of Children Foundation (FOCF) (www.festivalofchildren.org), a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization whose mission is “to improve the lives of children by strengthening the charities that serve them.” Every September, FOCF hosts a month long event at South Coast Plaza geared towards children and families, including cultural performances, balloon animals and face-painting. This year we will host our Awards Ceremony at South Coast Plaza, syncing up our program with FOCF so that we can share our rich Moon Festival traditions with a diverse community. The Awards Ceremony, which drew over 800 audience members in previous years, will include youth-led music, singing, and dance performances, a lion dance, and lantern march. All of the artwork from the contest will be exhibited at VAALA Cultural Center at 1600 N. Broadway, Ste. 210, Santa Ana. Please join us in celebrating the Moon Festival, supporting youthful creativity, connecting and enriching communities through art and culture.
